Pages that explain a practice and stay easy to maintain.
Every site begins with the same question: what should visitors understand first? The structure grows from the answer, the design from the structure. The technology stays in the background, where it belongs.
The approach
First the question, then the structure, then the design.
The answer to that first question decides the order of the pages, the weight of the content and the tone. Only then does the design appear – as the shape of that answer, not as decoration. What does not carry is dropped; what stays is given room.
The sites are built with Nuxt and maintained in Directus – by the people who own them. Where a body of work carries the site, the Catalogue de ligatures keeps the connections. Where an archive, a portfolio or a service is at the centre, it gets a structure of its own.
Projects
A view from above. A memory for rooms.
Recent work: a website for drone and 360° imagery, and an archive for exhibitions that should not be forgotten.
Composer, conductor, teacher (1942–2018) · catalogue of works and archive
The website for the work of a composer who can no longer tell it himself: scores to download, listening examples, interviews, texts – and a guide to the music, chapter by chapter.
Composer · catalogue of works, concerts, recordings
A website where the music keeps playing while you read: catalogue of works, concerts on a globe of venues, recordings, writings – and a player that does not fall silent when you turn the page.
International Choir Competition Spittal an der Drau · website relaunch
Since 1964, choirs from all over the world have sung in the arcaded courtyard of Schloss Porcia. The new website brings the call, the registration, the programme and the archive of prize winners into one system the cultural office maintains itself – multilingual, on every device.
A few examples from a longer series. Each site has its own face and is maintained by the people it belongs to. What they share is a way of keeping connections: the Catalogue de ligatures.
John Van der SliceComposer · teacher · music analyst
Catalogue, concerts with a globe of venues, recordings, writings and an audio player across the whole site.
Next to the commissioned work runs a series of studies: how does a single page carry a practice? How do two professions share one site? What holds three fields together? The answers flow into the commissioned projects.
