Design studies

One practice. Two professions. Three fields.

How does a website show what someone does when there is more than one answer? The studies One Fold, Two Fold and Three Fold pursue that question – not as sketches, but as working websites.

Why studies

Answers found before the commission.

Alongside the commissioned work runs a series of studies. They have no client and no deadline, and that is exactly why they can ask questions there is rarely time for in a commission: how does a page carry two professions of equal weight? When does motion help, when does it get in the way? How little navigation is enough?

Every study is a complete website with content, typography, rhythm and motion. New tools are tried here first, and the collaboration with AI is developed and adjusted here. What proves itself flows into the commissioned projects.

The studies

Folded, not divided.

    One Fold

How much structure does a single page need to carry a whole practice?

One practice, told as one continuous story: image, sentence, section, read on. No subpages, no detours – the eye stays on what is offered.

Worked out on the example of a listening practice after Tomatis.

    Two Fold

How do two professions of equal weight share one website without one becoming the other's footnote?

Each profession gets its own entrance, its own imagery and full authority; the person in the middle stays whole. One structure, carried out in several design worlds so that tone and temperature can be compared.

Made for people who cannot be explained in a single professional sentence – the teacher who is a concert pianist; the philosopher who designs houses.

    Three Fold

What holds three fields together when each is to keep its own tone?

Three areas – here singing, acting and writing – speak in their own colour and language and still remain, recognisably, the work of one person. The navigation opens out of a monogram in three directions.

Worked out on the example of the singer, actress and writer Saskia Hartmann.

What comes of it

What proves itself later carries responsibility.

The studies are not a shop window. They are where decisions are prepared that later have to be made quickly in a commission.

  • Structures

One-, two- and three-part layouts that can be adopted and adapted for commissioned sites.

  • Tools

New versions of Nuxt, Tailwind and GSAP are tried here first – not in a running client project.

  • Working with AI

Ways of working with AI tools are developed and tested here before they carry responsibility in a commission.
